DmC : Devil May Cry (REVIEW)

DmC : Devil May Cry

Complete Review(PC)

Hey Guys i'm back again with the review of the new reboot of the DmC and pardon for delay because ive got hooked up in new DmC just like Devil May Cry 4 which was honestly my first hardcore game infact one of my favourite game of all time .As all of you know DmC series is known to be one of the best in Hack n' Slash action adventure genre and up until DMC 4 it was being developed domestic team of Capcom themselves,But this time around Ninja Theory was given in charge for new game because of this many die har DMC fans   including me were very disappointed as noticing the past game by them.So lets take a look how this game comes to ur expectations.

Story(spoiler !)

Mundus is a Total Bad Ass
This is where the campaign ends or is it
The story in this game is pretty much similar to first game in original series. Where the Demon king "Mundus" is hell bent on killing Dante. So, the game starts when a mysterious woman 'Kat' coming to Dante and warn him about the hunte demon sent by mundus to drang dante to limbo(demonic realm) and kill him,and this Kat is a psychic who guides dante in limbo and after you defeat the hunter demon she takes you to their headquarters of the association she work for "The Order". Who are in a struggle to free the worlds from demons, and their leader is Vergil who asks for Dante for his help to defeat the Demon king Mundus (yeah i was also shocked seeing vergil on the side of good) but here is a twist Dante doesn't seems to remember his past or who he actually is because his memory were blocked. So, vergil and kat  takes hime to his old home to trigger his old memories where he learnt about his past and that vergil is his brother , then vergil  explains him the whole story about how the general of demon army 'Sparda' fell in love with an angel 'Eva'(its a tad bit different from original series as her mother was human but i liked this innovation) and they had twin sons Dante and Vergil and when mundus came to this knowledge he felt betrayed by sparda and attacked their house and killed Eva and enslaved sparda and torturing him for eternity in darkest corners of hell., but before getting caught sparda wiped the memories of  his sons and hid them separately untill they meet again . Then Vergil Unveils that only he and dante can kill the demon king as they are nephilims (part angel-part demon) only they possess the power in their Swords 'Rebellion' and 'Yamato' given to them by their father. Now vergil, dante and kat embarks on the journey to free the world from the rule of mundus, speaking of which one of the great thing i found that demons in real world are projected as evil corporates controlling the world.

And a message to DMC lovers to give this game a try as story pans out brilliantly and the the ending of the game has a peculiar surprise for all who plays it

Gameplay

Dante's got some pretty sick moves
Gameplay has always been the strongest side of the series & this game is also no different and to top that Ninja theory have taken a different approach towards the combat which has its fare share of pros and cons lets first take a look a pros , your arsenal of melee weapons is divided into two sections angelic and demonic ,where angelic weapon is more helpful in crowd control and weakening the enemies and Powerful Demonic weapons to strike deadly blow at weakened enemies and his faithful rebellion act as a neutral weapon having an all round features.Dante also has grips where angelic grip is use to pull your self towards enemies or object and demonic grip to pull enemies and objects toward you ,your arsenal have 2 angelic and 2 demonic weapons and also includes three different types of ranged guns which you acquire throughout the campaign and can upgrade them at begining of a mission or by divinity statues founnd during missions, combining these weapons, guns and grips you can pull of prety awesome and spectacular combos ,however no matter how great its combat system is it has its own flaws first of all the game has no target  lock system  it just auto target on enemies and proves to be very irritating while facing aerial and ground enemies at the same time, secondly it seems a little disappointing as there are no different combat styles like gunslinger, sword master ,royal gaurd and trickster like in previous game but i respect dev's decision as they are trying to opt out a fresh and new perspective but there is a thing that bugs me a lot in this game there are not even half as much different combat moves as there were in DMC 4 it was a hughe draw back and also there were no taunt system given in the game which i really liked in previous games. Now lets take a look at enemies which are very well designed with very different varieties and each more sinister than previous one and are very challenging according to different difficulty levels they really live up to the difficulty level of previous games as in this game developers gone more technical because very enemy has to be dealt with different tactics you can't just mash buttons and kill everybody its not god of war were almost every enemy is just killed by mashing buttons, its Devil May Cry where you have to use different combos and combine your entire arsenal of weapons to deal with the hordes of demons , there are also some gruesome, horrific and memorable boss fights that really keeps engaging ,some people may say that there are not enough amount of boss fight but avoid them there are just perfect amount and every battle is difficult than before.

Well That covered the combat system now lets take a look at the interaction with surroundings , this game is not a typical hack n' slash game it also has a fair amount of adventure form in it as you have to struggle in the ever changing world of limbo  using your angelic/demonic grip and angel boost to move past obstacles,as i failed to mention about angelic boost before it is an ability you earn where dante can thrust himself forward in the air to move past obstacle or gaps which he can't using  normal jumps or grips, as the level designs in limbo is one of the finest and every level has its unique essence where puzzles are in form of completing levels of limbo very much similar to Darksiders series but less complicated and less difficult , and last but not the least one of the most awesome part of the game the devil trigger, when you activate it the dante does not turns demon unlike past titles , his eyes becomes red ,hair turns white and he goes into super power stage and smashes everybody in the air (doesn't includes boss battles)and slows down the time and you have to kill as many demons as possible before the gauge runs out  , when the trigger is active the whole visual of game play changes into semi black-white colour pallete and textures become as flow of brush ink it truly is a sight worth seeing.Well game play may have its faults but it truly is a unique experience and i can say that ninja theory is heading a right path with this game.
Devil Trigger will take your breath away

Visuals/Audio

When i thinks of level design, environmental textures, enemy  design and modelling only one thing comes to my mind complete macabre  , the whole limbo is uniquely designed where you can never see repeating levels and each part of limbo has a sinister touch to it which is memorable. the modeling of enemies and character are highly detailed which gives you a polished visuals as a the game was powered by unreal engine no doubt the game looks magnificent. As for the new look of dante  it'll grown on you.

As you are aware DmC always features part rock and part heavy metal based music to churn up the killing experience well this game is no different it has a unique blend of music theme that really suits different scenarios or cut scenes and voice acting of the game is impeccable that really ensure the authenticity of characters and this game is a fine example of facial movement .I've gotta say there is hardly a fault you can find in the visuals , a great job was done here.

Final Words

This new Reboot is a fine example of solid story ,great visuals, great game play mechanics it provides an over all polished experience , apart from some annoying bugs or faults its a great game if you are a DmC fan or likes this genre it is a must buy for you other wise its highly recommended to try it.

Pros- Fluid game play, awesome visuals, great turn out of story

Cons- no target lock , no bloody palace , needs more combat moves

From My Side iT Goes- 8.8/10
