Metro : Last Light (Complete Review PC)

Hey guys its been a long time since my last review of 'Bioshock Infinite'  , but am back with the Review of Metro Last Light  a game which  i was pretty eager to check out since i enjoyed the previous title 'Metro 2033' as it was surprisingly good and was a lot different than generic shooting games and  especially the horror elements present inside it with some realistic gameplay depth but sadly i was disappointed by Metro Last Light , it may be possible that these element which turned me off might not be such a downer for everybody else . So check out this Complete review to make a judgement out of the game.

For Those who Doesn't Wanna Read the Whole Review Go to the Bottom of this Post For Quick Summary

Story

Well the game takes place nearly a year later the incidents of 'Metro 2033' where everybody took shelters inside the metro railway system after thermonuclear war in this post appocalyptic world where you  have the same protagonist 'Artyom' now as the story is following of previous title all the 'dark ones' were eliminated but a young Dark one has been Spotted , probably the last and The Order wants you  to eliminate it but 'Khan' a friendly supporting character from previous game thinks that the dark one holds some key to Artyom's nightmares and can bring peace back in Metro but during you attempt to reach the child dark one you were captured by some communist group in the metro , so the main plot kicks off with you trying to escape from your captivator and in the process you find out about some devious plans to take over the complete metro using the child dark one by different groups and now you are on a run to inform The order about this conspiracies taking place by different groups and you  find yourself on the center of it and although how much interesting it may sound it sure as hell takes a lot of time building its pace and can downright boring at times the key is patience , have some of it and you may probably enjoy it.

Gameplay

Well gameplay mechanics of the game is pretty much same as previous game where you have to survive the horrors of Metro and occasionally go out for some open world  action , one of the main key features of Metro Last Light is Light and Darkness where you have to use light as your own advantage against mutant monsters and blend into the darkness while facing human enemies which really balance outs the gameplay and you have this device attached to your  watch that indicates either you are visible by your enemies when light falls on you and as usual you have to use gas mask in heavy radiation zones and obviously you have to change the mask filter as time expires but here's the thing these filters were scattered all around the region providing no challenge for survival instinct , what i did found challenging was when any mutant attacked me the glass in my mask gets all scratched up and gets splashed up by dirt and blood making difficult to see but you can always wipe up the glass  but still the cracked glass maked it harder for me see and i really enjoy this type of realistic challenge. The surroundings in Metro Last Light is well appreciated by me especially the colonies build up with people and their hard ship is really well presented and this time the outer world visualization is also worth noticing filled with various types of mutants acting as a set pieces in the environment.

Gunplay in Metro Last Light seems a little past pace and action oriented as maximum amount of time you are shooting against humans rather than mutant monsters and keeping that in mind there are also a few types of grenades provided for heavy action gameplay turning the game into more of a generic shooter rather than survival horror but luckily there is a pretty decent stealth mechanics in the game not the best in bussines but  pretty solid and satisfying for a first-person shooter and while speaking of shooting experience i found that there is a very small variety of  weapons present which really didn't bothered me much as the game is set in a post apocalyptic scenario where people have to salvage everything even their currency are military grade bullets which you can use to buy new weapons or attachment for them , even though the gameplay looks pretty solid but its full of cliche'd sequence like while waiting for a transport or riding it and out of no where hordes of mutants starts attacking you , i have nothing against it but there are way too many of these sequences ,there are also other cliche's but these too seems to occur most of the times and are frustrating  , it may seem that i consider this game a total waste but the truth is the game can be really enjoyable at times.

Visual/Sound FX

Well my Expectations from visual fx were pretty high as Metro 2033 had some ground breaking effects that too powered with DX 11 and ive gotta say the dev's have done pretty decent job by churning out some nice and realistic effects especially the surroundings they add a level of authenticity to the whole scenario like abandoned storage room with rusticated steel doors filled with cob webs which do burn up when you use your lighter and you can see the webs burn into flames and a splendid job is done in creating effects with marshy water  and blood and gore , PhysiX particle effects is just mind blowing and honestly speaking visual FX is the best part about the game wether its a texture filtering or splendid lightning effect it really feels like apocalyptic world.

Sound Track in the game is average at the best and very clunky some times but the voice acting is pretty solid and nice sound effects like dropping of water and its echo in the tunnel or crisping or dried grass when you run on it but its easily forgettable nothing fantastic about it but i give an appreciation for trying hard .

Final Words

Metro Last Light was expected to be a sort of survival horror but it turns out be a just generic shooter even '4A games' tried hard to force it to stand out but the base of the game is weak . I would only say that 'Last Light' is just an average game with splendid visuals , where story develops at really slow pace , though it is a really good game but i wouldn't recommend it as a must buy.

Pros- Splendid Visual Details and effects , Smooth and mixed gameplay mechanics , Environment seems authentic

Cons- Story Develops at slow pace , more of a generic FPS than a survival horror , nothing memorable about sound FX or characters in the game.

Rating - 7.3/10

Summary

As you all know Metro Last Light is based on a post apocalyptic world in Russia where everybody has to settle in the underground  Metro Rail system to survive from the radiation in outer world, the concept's take post apocalyptic world is refreshing but the story is some what of a downer where it starts with a blast and just drops dead beat and gameplay is no ivy league but it has got its own perks but gunplay is downright average where human AI just seems brain dead as compared to mutants but Visual effects and texture resolution is one of the main redeeming factor of the game as everything else just seems average , most of you probably think that i just hate this game but the fact is i was expecting a little more than this...the game is not recommended but you are very welcome to try it yourself or wait for the price to go down.
