Lego Batman 3 : Beyond Gotham - Complete Review

Hey guys am back with the review of Lego Batman 3 : Beyond Gotham , the latest game in the Lego Video game section created by 'Traveler's Tale'. So let me just start off by saying that am not a big Lego fan , I mean before 'Lego Movie' i would have never even considered playing it . Its not like i hate the category but i just don't get the appeal , though as it may i will try my utmost best not be biased while writing the review.

Story/Plot

Well the plot of the game is a bit complicated so in order to elaborate it i have to convey in various steps. The game kicks off with an unusual meeting of the all emotional spectrum ring holders , soon finding out that it was a trap set by 'Braniac' in an attempt to steal and harness their powers. The Story then jumps forward to Gotham City where Batman and Robin are chasing after Killer Croc in sewers focusing on the regular crime fighting routine of The Dark Knight & Boy wonder and the game goes a bit mundane until you have reached the level where space watch tower being invaded by the gang of super villains and that's the point from which the exciting & fun part of the game kicks in as the Game turns from a Lego Batman game to a Justice League Game where you get to play as all the lead characters of the league and thus making the title 'Beyond Gotham' justifiable.

Since its basically a Justice League game the story prospect is much more entertaining and enjoyable where Justice League team up with League of Doom accompanied by Green Lantern Corp in order to prevent Braniac from accomplishing his nefarious objective of miniaturizing and capturing Earth. The plot is well placed to attract a wide group of players and not only Just DC fans.

Gameplay

I don't know wether you are familiar with the gameplay concept of Lego Games . Well if you are not let me put it this way , the game mechanics are as basic as it comes for a co-op game where 2 players play through a level breaking as many stuffs and destroying as many enemies as they can , even solving a few nifty and fun puzzles along the way while earning coins as a sort of personal competition. The game also offers a wide roster of playable characters each with its unique attribute and efficiency , thus increasing the replay value of the game . The wide range of roster isn't the only reason for its increased replay value but the game also offers tons of extra contents in form of collectibles , different playable modes , unique boss battles even mini games including rescuing TV's Adam West included in every level. The Game also features Suit selection where most of the characters can change among theirs various suits where different suits offers different unique abilities which are highly useful in tackling various obstacles and enemies which add to the variance and minimizes the repetitiveness of the game , that being said the game becomes dull during prolonged game sessions.

Although the game seems all fun and entertaining its not without its faults for starters the combat is pretty homogeneous where the attack is performed simply by a melee blow at least for most of the characters, the game has provided uniqueness to characters but combat wise most of the characters are pretty much identical. They should have added various moves to add originality to characters. Secondly it shows restrictiveness in the level designs which is not a deal break but still a bummer and finally the game could prove to be distasteful for the newcomers to the Lego franchise as game tries to provide help in forms of hints but still i observed that players could be stuck in a level for a long time getting frustrated just because they didn't broke every object or didn't noticed a latch or lever  made of legos among broken legos or missed the jumping legos to create objects. I haven't had much experience with Lego games but while playing the game i found this issue to be kind of frustrating otherwise its a pretty fine game.

Visual/Sound FX

To be honest i didn't thought much about its visuals before starting the game because its just a Lego game there is nothing more dynamic to be expected , but while playing the game i noticed DX 11 really churns out pretty good visuals with more detailing in effects and surrounding , providing better depth of field and dynamic lighting and shadows is  pretty stunning but still not a pure eye candy. Its fair enough to say that i liked the light hearted artworks and how game takes us through variance in scenarios from bat cave to space battles showing off its implementation of DirectX 11.

The sound FX part i liked a lot , the voice cast did an impeccable job filling life to a bunch of legos be it the Joker's funny punch lines , Flash's Childish blabbering or the depth of seriousness in Batman and the music score is also not too bad.

Final Words

LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham may have its error in the gameplay which might push away some players but if your learned the ropes to cope it , it is a fun ,light hearted and interactive solo/co-op game with the game being a LEGO Justice League in disguise with an engaging plot , pretty nice visuals and lovable voice casting which would be appreciated by many. So if you like engaging yourself in some light hearted casual gaming especially co-op , i would surely recommend you this game but if a couple hours of Casual game time is not you thing i would say try to avoid it as game becomes dull and uninteresting during prolonged game session..

Pros - unexpectedly interesting plot , impeccable voice acting , DX11 visuals

Cons - restrictive gameplay , prolonged sessions makes the game lose its charm, not favorable to players new to Franchise

"Casual and FUN !"
